Designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen in the 1930s, the VL 45 Radiohus pendant emits soft, diffused light through mouth-blown opal glass, with a clear opening at the base for downward illumination.
The VL 45 Radiohus pendant light provides uniform, general and diffused light, with a clear opening at the bottom of the shade allowing for downward illumination. The quality of the three-layer, mouth-blown opal glass ensures that the fixture is evenly lit, creating a soft, consistent glow. A brushed brass pendant fitting complements the glass and, as it is untreated, will develop a patina over time as it reacts to its environment.
The Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL 45 Radiohus: Pendant Light in the late 1930s for Radiohuset, the headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation. The lamp was created as part of a complete architectural concept, with Lauritzen designing everything from furniture to lighting fixtures in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. Originally referred to as the Office Lamp, the VL 45 featured a combination of polished white glass and brass detailing. It was reintroduced with careful updates to honour the original design.
Founded in 1874 in Copenhagen, Louis Poulsen has been shaping light for over a century. As the original house of light, the brand creates designs that go beyond illumination—enhancing spaces and the way people experience them. Guided by the Danish design tradition where form follows function, Louis Poulsen approaches light as a material to be sculpted. Through expert craftsmanship, quality materials, and innovative design, the brand continues to refine the art of creating exceptional lighting. Since joining the Flos B&B Italia Group in 2018, Louis Poulsen remains dedicated to designing with purpose—shaping light, spaces, and experiences with people, the planet, and culture in mind.
