Description
The PH 80 Floor Lamp, designed to mark what would have been Poul Henningsen’s 80th birthday in 1974, carries forward his approach to light as something to be carefully shaped and directed.
This lamp is part of the three-shade lighting system first developed by Henningsen in the 1920s in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. It emits a diffused, symmetrical light, with most of the illumination directed downward. The opal acrylic shades soften the output, distributing light evenly and comfortably, while helping to minimise glare.
A white top reflector positioned above the shades reflects additional light downwards, subtly influencing the colour and tone of the glow depending on the bulb used. This version of the PH 80 is finished in black with white opal shades, offering a clear, pared-back interpretation of the original design. Shades are made from white opal acrylic and polycarbonate, with a stem in black, powder-coated steel and a base in smooth black ABS. The lamp includes an integrated dimmer, allowing for easy adjustment of light intensity to suit different times of day or tasks.
Unlike other models in the PH range, the PH 80 is not named after its shade size. Its design stays true to Henningsen’s principles, developed through a scientific method using a logarithmic spiral to ensure consistent and glare-free light. Though created after his death, the PH 80 continues the legacy of a lighting system focused on function, comfort, and clarity.
