Designed by Øivind Slaatto, the Patera pendant features a spherical structure of diamond-shaped cells that provide soft, glare-free light, with a blend of downward and upward illumination.
The Patera pendant light, designed by Øivind Slaatto in 2015, is a modern interpretation of the traditional chandelier, formed as a glowing sphere made up of carefully arranged diamond-shaped cells. The design follows a Fibonacci-inspired structure, creating a sense of natural order and rhythm. Each cell is shaped to reflect light while shielding the source from view above 45 degrees, producing a soft, glare-free glow. From below, the cells remain open, allowing the light to shine downwards.
A subtle amount of light is also directed upwards to gently brighten the ceiling, contributing to an even ambient atmosphere. The pendant offers 360-degree illumination that feels calm and balanced, casting light in a way that flatters its surroundings. Its layered form creates a slightly different look depending on where it’s viewed from, adding quiet variation to the design.
The Patera was developed to combine visual appeal with carefully considered lighting qualities. Every part of the structure plays a role in shaping how the light is experienced, making the pendant both functional and thoughtfully crafted.
