The Keglen Floor lamp was developed in 2017 by Louis Poulsen in close collaboration with Jakob Lange of BIG Ideas, as part of a design process that aimed to explore the geometry and character of light through a consistent design language. The lamp builds on the earlier Keglen Pendant, originally created for the Tirpitz Museum in Blåvand, Denmark—a project that marked the beginning of a wider collaboration between the lighting brand and the architects. With the Keglen series, the intention was to form a coherent family of lights, each with shared characteristics and refined details, but with distinct personalities suited to their typology.
The design of the Keglen Floor lamp is defined by its conical shade, which merges seamlessly with the stem. The stem folds inward into the shade, forming a smooth, organic transition that softens the overall silhouette. At the base of the cone sits a built-in curved diffuser, engineered to emit a gentle, downward-directed light that is both even and glare-free. A small circular opening at the top of the shade allows light to escape upwards, creating a subtle ambient glow.
In the floor and table versions of the Keglen family, the shade’s inner diffuser takes on the appearance of a liquid form, wrapping around the stem like a drop of water held by surface tension. The simple, graphic quality of the base and stem complements the more sculptural shape of the shade. The result is a lamp that balances clarity of form with a softer visual presence, well suited to a variety of settings while remaining true to the original design concept.
