The Casting T 150 Outdoor Light, designed by Vincent Van Duysen in 2016 for Flos, features a robust and functional design, finished in black. The body is made from extruded aluminium, with the base and diffuser crafted from die-cast aluminium EN AB-47100, which has a low copper content for improved durability. The high-resistance coating process includes a sandblasting treatment to create a porous surface, ensuring better adhesion of the paint. The external coating is then applied in two layers of epoxy powder, in accordance with the QUALICOAT standard. The first epoxy layer provides chemical and mechanical resistance, while the second layer, a polyester finish, offers added protection from UV rays and atmospheric agents.
The painted surfaces undergo alkaline and acidic washes, followed by rinsing with deionised water, and a chemical conversion treatment to safeguard against oxidation. A micro-textured glass diffuser is securely glued to the heat sink, ensuring a watertight seal and uniform distribution of light. The luminaire is equipped with a segment of outgoing cable in neoprene and a 220/240V integrated power supply. It is recommended for installation on a cement plinth or a flat surface. This version of the Casting T 150 is dimmable, allowing for adjustable lighting levels to suit different outdoor settings.
