AJ: White Table Lamp

Description

The AJ Table Lamp, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, features a distinctive geometric form that reflects his architectural approach. Emitting downward-directed light, the lamp’s tiltable shade allows for adjustable illumination, while its white-painted interior ensures a soft, comfortable glow. The design was originally part of a complete lighting collection created for the hotel, including a small table lamp, floor lamp, wall lamp, and table-mounted lamp. The AJ Lamp family became one of Jacobsen’s most recognised works, with its clean lines and precise angles aligning with his broader design philosophy. Initially available in copper and stainless steel, the lamp was conceived as an integral part of the hotel’s aesthetic, where its interplay of straight and curved angles echoed the building’s geometric structure. Equipped with a 2.4-metre cord, plug, and a switch on the lamp stand, it is functional and thoughtfully designed.
